Data Ownership & Portability Terms

Client ownership of business data, Denton BBQ's processing rights, exports, retention, and portability at the end of service.

Effective September 24, 2026

These are general Denton BBQ service terms. A signed client agreement, statement of work, service schedule, or order controls if it contains different terms for a specific client or project.

1. Client Data Ownership

As between Denton BBQ and the client, the client retains ownership of its business data, customer or constituent records, uploaded documents, client-specific content, and other information supplied to or generated for the client through a managed system, subject to rights of third parties and applicable law.

2. Permission to Process

The client authorizes Denton BBQ and its service providers to host, process, transmit, back up, transform, and otherwise use client data as reasonably necessary to provide, secure, support, troubleshoot, migrate, and improve the contracted service.

3. Data Export

Upon reasonable request and subject to the applicable agreement, Denton BBQ will provide client-owned data in a commercially reasonable format available from the system. Export format may vary by data type, provider, and application architecture.

4. Retention After Termination

After termination, Denton BBQ may retain client data for a reasonable transition, backup, legal, accounting, security, or dispute-resolution period. Production copies may then be deleted or decommissioned, while residual backup copies may remain until they expire under normal backup retention cycles.

5. Client Responsibility for Legal Use

The client is responsible for determining the lawful basis, notices, consents, retention requirements, and other legal obligations applicable to the client's collection and use of its data unless a written agreement expressly assigns a specific compliance responsibility to Denton BBQ.

Questions about these terms?

Client-specific requirements should be documented in the applicable proposal, statement of work, service agreement, or secure client legal record.
